Gross Extension
A hammered and forged brass spoon whose chain and reticulated handles splay on either side horizontally.
The wearer threads their index fingers through the rings. With a slow, deliberate motion, they draw their hands apart. The tension allows an element of control, but it’s in conflict with the weight of the chains and the delicate structures.
The breadth of their span is wide and occupies a larger than usual space, their body contorts and tenses in order to hold the spoon in place. It hovers above a vessel of fluid edibles. When the hands close, the tension slackens, and the spoon dips, pooling the liquid into its hollow.
As the wearer draws their hands outward once again, the long chains pull tight. Spoon and body move in tandem, closing the gap between tool and mouth until they meet and consumption can begin.
However, there is another possibility: two wearers, each taking one end of the spoon, may come together to feed a third, central mouth. By mirroring one another’s movements, they create a shared tension, guiding the utensil in tandem until sustenance is offered together.
