Sponge Sculpture with Lid

How can we bring value to an ordinary material not usually seen as beautiful? Sponge goes from furniture waste and brought to the ceramics context, treated as a refined and delicate material. It is wrapped in ceramic structures, based on craft techniques like basketry or weaving - enhancing its beauty and bringing it a new value. The vase shape defined by the foam, becoming the form itself - being reminiscent of its cultural symbol, but getting its own language and identity.
