SAO PAULO INTERVIEWS: RAPHAEL DIAS

Starting with Raphael Dias, our first artist feature, we are excited to announce our set of São Paulo interviews. Cultivating community and pieces within our local base at Kintu Studio is important, but so is connecting with cultures across seas.

Meet Raphael Dias in his hidden studio in São Paulo, Brazil.

Nestled in the vibrant district of Pinheiros, his studio is tucked behind Diaria, his gallery, where you can explore a diverse collection of unique artworks by Brazilian artists. Originally from Curitiba, Raphael has been based in São Paulo for several years, crafting pieces inspired by modernist Brazilian architecture, including the works of Lina do Bardi.

As we made our way up the stairs, we got a closer look at his intricate tapestry work—an artistic expression that blends movement, texture, and organic forms.

Drawing from the Modernist movement, his art reflects the essence of a solar soul, Brazilian architecture's flowing curves, and nature's expressive beauty. His work revisits imaginary landscapes, shaping forms and contours deeply connected to his personal experiences and emotions. His tapestry compositions emerge from a process of compositional exploration, later transformed through threads into woven serenity.

Each piece stitches time itself, combining meticulous handcrafting with rich textures, fluid movement, and organic shapes.
